Lowa Innox Pro GTX Lo Hiking Shoe Review – Comfort & Performance

Lowa Innox Pro GTX Lo Hiking Shoe Review – Comfort & Performance

The Lowa Innox Pro GTX Lo hiking shoe delivers great comfort, performance and durability for a realistic price tag.

Sometimes you find a brand that you become really happy with and for me Lowa is one of those brands. Since investing in the Lowa Zephyr’s I have been impressed by the quality of the footwear and for the price point and I believe that they represent very good value for money. Yes, Lowa footwear is more expensive but from experience, especially when it comes to hiking and walking footwear buying budget is a false economy.

Why I chose the Lowa Innox Pro GTX Lo: For a surprising change I didn’t want anything too aggressive, usually you’ll see me in some meaty boots or tactical trainer type walking shoes but this time [call it being 50!] I wanted something a little more subtle. The Innox Pro’s fit the bill as they are not the type of shoes that jump out as all terrain trail eaters rather something more subdued and on the more recreational side [but still with the performance].

Performance

The problem with big meaty walking shoes is usually weight, the Innox Pro’s are very lightweight, the lightest shoes I’ve owned and boy does it make a difference. When you’re out walkng the dog, driving or just around the campsite these shoes are spot on, not clunky, incredibly comfortable and easy to slip on.

plenty of grip for the trail

The Goretex lining means you can step through water without any worries and the grip is great over rocky terrain. Using these shoes in the English winter has really put them to the test and while they are more of a summer shoe they still perform well in the cold weather.

Frosty morning walks: On the trail the grip is good over rocks and most challenges you are likely to face in woodland – Lowa’s own MULTI TRAC rubber soles see to that, the only area you may notice a drop in performance is on wet surfaces especially tarmac and similar slippery surfaces, this is however to be expected in varying degrees from all footwear.

Comfort

It may just be me having always worn more heavyweight shoes but when I first slipped these shoes on they felt quite ‘thin’, this is the lightweight compromise. Lowa however have a knack of making footwear that really breaks into a good fit and very quickly too so it didn’t take long for me to really start enjoying the Innox Pro’s.

Stemming from the athletic genes of the mid-cut model, the Innox Pro GTX LO is a lightweight, highly cushioned shoe for moving quickly on trails. They are made of a robust mix of synthetic materials that can handle every movement and provide the highest level of comfort, with the benefit of being 100% vegan.

While the shoes are lightweight they are supportive making them good for walking trails muddy or dry. The only slight negative would be that I don’t feel that they are cushioned enough in the sole.

The Innox’s are an ideal summer hiking shoe, breathability is good having used these shoes during the back end of a Spanish summer although there are more specific hot weather alternatives out there.

Slipping these shoes on is something else, usually I’m battling with chunk and laces but these slip on like nothing I’ve had before – great if like me you’re balance is a little off and bending down too long is an issue.

Verdict

I am using the Innox Pro’s as every day footwear and they are a great performer, they are incredibly lightweight, I don’t have to worry about getting my feet wet and I’m more than happy with the comfort level of these shoes.

Slipping these on to take the dog for a walk, go shopping or visit friends is like having a great peforming pair of shoes for almost every occasion and with a subtle yet smart design you don’t have to worry about standing out with the whole tactical or serious hiker thing going on.

Overall the Innox Pro GTX is a very capable, great allrounder and has reinforced my decision in spending with the Lowa brand again.
