Overland sunrise in the Altiplano de Granada, getting out early to relax and watch Mother Nature as the day begins.
Early mornings in the summer months here in Andalucia involve driving into the nearby hills to collect wood, we like to be prepared for winter so set up the rear of the Shogun to take half a dozen plastic crates as well as bags and sacks for sticks, logs and pine cones,
The journey from the warehouse in which we live takes around 30 minutes and we tend to set off at around 6.30am, in the summer the sun comes up around 7.00am so we always get a good show when we are out, even just walking the dog early with a sunrise is cool but there is something about seeing the whole thing from the top of a mountain [with coffee of course].

The world has become a very different place in 2022 but Mother Nature remains consistent which kind of puts things into perspective, perhaps we all need to take a step back, breath and consider the things that really matter in life.
Let’s not make the time we live in now ‘the good old days’
Unfortunately the human race appears to be hell bent on destroying itself, we even make Hollywood movies about it then do nothing. The planet is more fragile than ever and we have the opportunity to do something about it in order that our kids and grand kids can enjoy a morning sunrise just as we have been able to. Let’s not make the time we live in now ‘the good old days’.

A sunrise can be spectacular, each one different, each with a different vibe. Watching a sunrise while being out in nature is a great start to the day, simply chilling out and watching the sun come up is good for the soul, good for the mind and when you can’t afford to get stressed it’s a like the best free medication you can get!
Before 2022 I can’t remember how many times I made the effort to get up and watch the sun coming up, seeing a sunset was just as rare before I quit drinking alltogether, now things are different and with changes in diet too and a different outlook I like to get out and see the morning show as often as I can.

One thing about being sober is the ability to wake early and not feel rotten from the night before, I often think of all the hangovers people must endure after the fiestas while I’m fresh on top of the hill with a panoramic view, indeed some of the fiestas are still going on when we leave as you can hear the music at 6.00am… in bed all day or taking in those views? You can tell I’m approaching 50 now, my time of all the crazy madness in the early 90’s is long gone…

There is nothing quite like an overland sunrise wherever you are in the world, they’re free and if you take the time to relax, just sit and switch off for a moment they make you realise what a fantastic planet we live on, it’s home and it’s worth saving.
