Puerto Venta Luisa [Almeria]
Puerto Venta Luisa is not a place or a location to seek out on it’s own rather a spot to work into your overland journey should you be in the area [Serón/Gérgal municipalities]. The Sierra de Los Filabres is the real gem on this trail before you hit the woodland there are a couple of places worth stopping off and Puerto Venta Luisa is one of them.
You can find this formation of rocks on the way to the Calar Alto observatories which is just a couple of km’s up the road. There is ample parking [offroad not designated] and while you are quite close to a main road this spot is pretty quiet with the exception of the bikes which you can see and hear negotiating the winding roads below you.

Puerto Venta Luisa is an interesting spot, park up behind the rocks which dominate this area of the mountain and you could be right in the middle of nature on your own, only the occasional car or motorbike passing by reminds you that there is an arterial road nearby.
For somewhere to stop off and take a break it’s ideal but what really makes this place special are the views, even just rocking up in the 4×4 and sitting in the vehicle [like those American movies where cars are parked on a hill overlooking a town] you’ll be impressed.
Wildlife includes mountain goats, eagles, buzzards and much more but do be mindful of the processionary pine caterpillars which can be found in the pine trees during the winter months through to early spingtime

The primary feature of this location [besides from the rock structure] is the elevation, afterall it is within spitting distance of the obseravatories, the views are 360 and arrive on a clear, cloudless day and you can see for miles around.
